A Generation X State of Mind?

thesportychic - Posted on 19 June 2011

Recently I had the chance to have a deep conversation with a dear family friend...my sistah...a strong proud beautiful Black wife, mother, daughter...an educated gifted women, accomplished in the art of dance (a passion we both share). Our chat was in regards to our personal observations, views, and opinions of our generation (generation X) and its current state of mind. If you were born between 1960-1982 you have been coined gen X, as in generation X. What is our current state of mind? Why does it seem that we are so lost? What are we accomplishing? Are we ready for the challenges of the new world we live in? We are young...we are Black American born...we are African born...we are Haitian born...we (the darker people world wide) are elite members of first class oppression... however, with EDUCATION we are a generation that has the opportunity and ability to advance in ways unknown to any generation before us, thanks to modern technology we have the access to knowledge at our fingers tip...we can communicate with friends and family from across the globe in our daily lives as if they were next door... we can meet new friends in distant lands we never dreamed possible to travel to, but we must learn to utilize our current resources to acquire the educated knowledge required for healthy productive advancement into the future...out of poverty and oppression. Lets light the way for the future warriors, we generation X must accept responsibility for the direction of our future. Education is elevation! What I discovered about myself, my peers and the world around us during our passionate exchange of thoughts and ideas was both frightening and refreshing for me, the fright is of the lack of accountability and work ethic that will greet us in our autumn years courtesy of the young misguided generation that we are now setting the stage for...our future care givers... dancers...movers and shakers...whats refreshing is the fact the many of my fellow genx'ers are EDUCATED, hard working and setting prime examples. We've certainly...without a doubt come a long way world wide since 1502, when my bloodline forced into the transatlantic slave trade, landed in the Americas to endure the worst treatment of a people on record as of this writing...period! we have come far enough to elect an ivy league EDUCATED African American born President...proving with education, dedication, faith, EXTRA, EXTRA hard work and focus, we generation X of the world will be the light to guide the path to a future generation that will experience true oneness. I laughed as I remember a time before when I was unaware...before I was awakened to the nasty truths of darkness in the world, a naive girl thinking I had and knew it all...that time has long ended its time to take center stage for the performance of a life time.
I'm just saying,
